1854 - Deposit
Deposit, a thriving post-village of Delaware county, New York, on the Coquago river, where it is crossed by the New York and Erie railroad, 177 miles from New York city. There are extensive tanneries in the vicinity. Population, about 1400. It contains several churches and good hotels, and freight houses of the railroad company.

1895 - Deposit
Deposit, a post-village of Broome and Delaware cos., N.Y., is on the West Branch of the Delaware River, and on the Erie Railroad, 38 miles E. by S. from Binghamton, and 177 miles N.W. of New York. It contains 6 churches, a national bank, 2 newspaper offices, a graded school, granite and marble-works, iron-works, and manufactures of iron hay-sheds, hair-restorer, &c. Pop, in 1890, 1879.

1903 - FIRE DID $50,000 DAMAGE. HOTEL, OPERA HOUSE, AND OTHER STRUCTURES BURNED IN DEPOSIT, N. Y.

Deposit, N. Y., March 14. - A disastrous fire started in the Oquaga House here at 4:20 o'clock this morning and destroyed property to the value of $50,000. The first to go was the hotel itself. Then the flames communicated to the Stone Opera House, which adjoins it, and to the buildings occupied by BECK'S cigar factory and the Central House, another big hotel.

The VAIL residence, east of the Oquaga House, was damaged and A. G. LOOMIS'S livery stables were on fire several times, MRS. JAMES THOMPSON, an invalid, who has been boarding at the hotel for years, and an aged couple were rescued by the firemen with much difficulty. CHARLES CURRIAN, the clerk, had a narrow escape. EDWARD REAGAN, a fireman on the Delaware Division of the Erie, jumped from a third-story window, but suffered no serious injury.

The Oquaga House was erected in 1850, and was well known by the traveling public.
