Hopkinton was laid out in 1850, and it was incorporated in 1874.
1887 - The Lincoln township school board, at a meeting held a few days ago, decided to engage Mr. J. T. Patterson, of Hopkinton, Iowa, a brother-in-law to J. E. Bort, to teach the school heretofore taught by Mr. Hoover.
Mr. Patterson is expected here tomorrow morning. His school will open Sept. 19.
1895 - Hopkinton
Hop/ kinton, a post-village in South Fork township, Delaware co., Iowa, on the South Fork of the Maquoketa River, and on the Davenport & St. Paul Railroad, 74 miles N.N.W. of Davenport, and about 35 miles W.S.W. of Dubuque. It has the Lenox Collegiate Institute, 3 churches, a bank, and 2 newspaper offices. Pop, in 1890, 668.

Hopkinton, a banking post-town of Delaware Co., Iowa, on the South Fork of the Maquoketa River and on the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul R., 35 miles WSW. of Dubuque. Lenox College is located here. Pop. is 1900, 767.
