Caledonia county. On the height of land between Onion and Connecticut rivers. "The Plain" is delightfully situated, having the Green and White mountains in prospect. Several branches of the Onion river water this town and afford it some water power. Here is Jo and Molly's pond, and a sulphur spring. The surface is broken and hard, but good for sheep, of which about 6,000 are reared. The town was first settled in 1785. The first females who came here came on snow-shoes. This is the birth place of Zerah Colburn, the celebrated mathematician. Cabot lies 12 miles N.E. from Montpelier, and bounded E. by Danville. Population, 1830, 1,304.

Boundaries. North by Walden. east by Danville and Peacham, south by Marshfield, and west by Monroe.

First Settlers. The settlement of this town was commenced on what is called Cabot Plain, in April, 1785, by James Bruce, Edmund Chapman, Jonathan Heath and Benjamin Webster, with their families. The females came into the town on snowshoes, and were obliged to suffer many privations and hardships.

CABOT, a township of Caledonia co., in the state of Vermont, U.S., 20 m. NE of Montpelier, drained by the head-streams of the Onion river and its tributaries of the Connecticut. Its surface, which is hilly, is chiefly pasture. Pop. in 1840, 1,440.

1908 - High School Opened at Cabot.
A high school was opened at Cabot Monday, August 21, with twenty-four students. There had been no plan for a formal opening, but thirty-six people interested in seeing the new school start, were present.
