Comstock Township was organized by an act of the Territorial Legislature in 1834. Previously, it was a part of Arcadia Township (later renamed Kalamazoo Township), which initially comprised all eight townships in the northern half of Kalamazoo County. In June 1832, Richland Township was set off, consisting of Richland, Ross, Charleston, and Comstock townships. On March 7, 1834, Comstock township was set off, comprising Comstock and Charleston townships and also Climax Township, which had been set off from Brady Township. Climax was set off from Comstock on December 30, 1837, and Charleston in 1838.

Comstock Township became a charter township in 1964.

1854 - Comstock
Comstock, a post-township in the N. E. central part of Kalamazoo county, Michigan. Population, 1202.

Comstock, a thriving post-village in the above township, on the right or N. bank of the Kalamazoo river, and on the Central railroad, 136 miles W. from Detroit. It is one of the principal villages of the county, and contains several mills.
1878 - We acknowledge the receipt of a copy of a mammoth publication named the Weekly Visitor, published at Galesburg, Mich. It ought to have a mammoth circulation.

Galesburg, a banking post-village of Kalamazoo co., Mich., on the Kalamazoo River and on the Michigan Central R., 9 miles E. of the city of Kalamazoo. It has various manufactures. Pop. in 1900, 689.
