History of Sainte-Martine, Québec, Canada

The first settlers settled there in 1812 and the parish of Sainte-Martine was canonically constituted in 1829. In 1855, the municipality was established as a civil society.

On August 10, 1921, a fire destroyed part of the village of Sainte-Martine. The number of local firefighters being insufficient, help was requested in Montreal, Beauharnois and Valleyfield. Losses were assessed at $88,000.00.
