Pownal, Cumberland, ME
Pownal is a town in Cumberland County, settled in 1680 and incorporated on March 3, 1808 from a portion of Freeport, while Maine was still a part of Massachusetts. It was named for governor Thomas Pownall of Massachusetts. Pownal swapped land with North Yarmouth in 1813 and 1816 to complete its current boundaries.

Pownal, Maine
Cumberland county. This is a small town, of good soil, and bounded N. by Durham. It lies 35 miles S.W. from Augusta and 19 N. from Portland. Incorporated, 1808. Population, 1837, 1,232.
