Pointe-du-Lac, Trois-Rivières, Québec, Canada*

Founded in 1738, the former town of Pointe-du-Lac is now part of the City of Trois-Rivières. The Pointe-du-Lac sector is located on the sandy point northwest of Lake Saint-Pierre, west of the center of Trois-Rivières.

It was in 2002 that the city of Pointe-du-Lac was merged with the municipalities of Sainte-Marthe-du-Cap, Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Saint-Louis-de-France, Trois-Rivières and Trois -Rivières-Ouest, to form the new city of Trois-Rivières.

Historically, the Abenaki lived in these places before the establishment of the colony of New France. They named this place Ôbômkôntek which means camp of the point of white sand. The current descriptive toponym describes the nature of the site. This name comes from the concession of the seigniory of "terre de la Pointe du lac St-Pierre" in 1656 from the governor of Trois-Rivières, Pierre Boucher to his son-in-law Étienne Seigneuret and Jean Sauvaget.

The place also bore the name of Tonnancour and the village of Sainte-Geneviève.
