The parish of Saint-Sébastien covers more than 91 square kilometers in the administrative region of Estrie, part of the MRC du Granit.

The territory extends over a long plateau, bordered to the southeast by Mont Saint-Sébastien. Perched at 500 meters, the municipality is one of the highest in Quebec.

The territory was originally populated by farmers from Beauce.

The granite industry has a major impact in San Sebastian and brings a significant boost to the local economy. San Sebastian is said to be the granite capital of Quebec and Canada.

The municipality of Saint-Sébastien was founded in 1855 and the parish in 1869.

"ST. SEBASTIEN. A small village in the parish of the same name, county and district of Iberville, two and a half miles from Henryville ; four miles from Pike River ; and four miles from Clarenceville. Mails are received daily via Montreal and Vermont Junction railway and stage. A large amount of grain is raised in and about the parish. The village is in a prosperous condition, and is growing in population and wealth. There is one house of public worship, a Catholic chapel. Population of the parish, 3000."
