Brookfield, a post town, situated in the north part of the county, is bounded north by a part of New-Milford, in Litchfield county, northeast by the Ousatonick river, which separates it from New-Milford, east by Newtown, south by Danbury, and west by Danbury and New-Fairfield.

Brookfield, Connecticut
Fairfield county. This town lies 33 miles S.W. from New Haven, 24 N. by W. from Fairfield, and 6 N. by E. from Danbury. It was taken from New Milford, Danbury, and Newtown, in 1788, and named after the first minister, Rev. Thomas Brooks, who was ordained when the church was organized in 1758. The surface of the town is somewhat broken, but the soil is strong, and well adapted to the culture of grain. The rocks in many parts of the town are limestone, and afford marble. The N.E. boundary is washed by the Housatonick river, over which is a bridge to Milford; and Still river passes nearly through its centre. Fish, particularly shad, are taken in its waters. Population, 1830, 1,261.

Brook'field, a post-village of Fairfield co., Conn., in Brookfield township, and on the Housatonic Railroad near its junction with the Danbury Branch, 29 miles N. by W. from Bridgeport, 9 miles N.N.E. of Danbury, and 2 miles S.W. of the Housatonic River, which forms the N.E. boundary of the township. It has several churches, and manufactures of hats, knives, &c. Pop. of township, 1193.

1926 - (Brookfield, CT) - On July 15, 1926, Connecticut Light & Power Company’s board of directors approved a plan to build a man-made reservoir in order to produce electric power.
What would become Candlewood Lake was the first large-scale project in the United States to employ the concept of a pumped-water storage facility; basically, water from the Housatonic River was pumped up a 13-foot-diameter pipe and then held in a large reservoir. 1928 - (Brookfield, CT) - Candlewood Lake is created
On February 25, 1928, water was first pumped into the valley and by September 29, 1928, the lake was officially complete at 429 feet above sea level. Candlewood Lake is 16 miles long, 3.2 miles wide with an average depth of 40 feet, and covers a surface area of 8.4 square miles or 5,400 acres.
