"The Marlborough Tavern in Marlborough, Connecticut was built in 1760. It has also been known as the Col. Elisha Buell House. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978; the listing included two contributing buildings...

It was operated by innkeeper Colonel Elisha Buell, who had a nearby gunsmith and metalworking shop, too. The house was owned by the Buell family until 1898. In 1978 it was operated as a restaurant, the Marlborough Tavern.

Marlborough is a small post town, situated in the southeastern extremity of the county, fifteen miles from Hartford; bounded north by Glastenbury, east by Hebron in Tolland county, south by Colchester in New-London county, and west by Chatham, in Middlesex county. The area of the town comprises about twenty-two square miles, having an average length of five and a half miles, and an average breadth of four miles...

Hartford county. Marlborough was taken from three towns, which belonged to three different counties, in 1803. It lies 14 miles S.E. from Hartford. The surface of the town is hilly and stony, and the lands best adapted for grazing. It has a cotton factory, a bed of black lead, and a good fish pond. Dark hollow, in the western part of the town, presents some wild scenery of more terror than beauty. Population, 1830, 704.

MARLBOROUGH lies in the extreme southeastern part of the county, and is fifteen miles distant from Hartford. It was formed from portions of Glastonburv, Hebron, and Colehester, which are situated in the three counties of Hartford, Tolland, and New London respectively, and is bounded north by Glastonbury, east by Hebron, south by Colchester, and west by Chatham, the latter until 1767 being a part of Middletown.

The area of the town at its incorporation in 1803 was about eighteen square miles. Ten years later an addition was made from Glastonbury, increasing its area to twenty-two square miles : the average length now being five and a half miles, and its average width four miles. It is very irregular in shape, and its rugged surface at some points swells into picturesque hills.
