Everett, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA

Everett was originally part of Charlestown, and later Malden. It separated from Malden in 1870. In 1892, Everett changed from a town to a city. The city was named after Edward Everett, who served as U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator, the 15th Governor of Massachusetts, Minister to Great Britain, and United States Secretary of State.   • News 1870 - A one armed newspaper carrier in Everett, Mass., has at odd times built himself a two-story French-roofed house, 26 by 32. All the work was done by him except raising the frame, setting the door and window frames, and the plastering.

  • News 1908 - BLOCK OF BUILDINGS DESTROYED.
    Everett, Mass., Jan. 27. - Nearly an entire block of buildings, including the Masonic Hall, was destroyed by fire early in the day, with a loss of about $75,000. The local department was unable to cope with the flames and help was summoned from Chelsea and Malden.
