Post Office and General Store (Whitman & Wright), Ocean Bluff, Mass.

Up at the Bluff in 1900, S.G. Capen's Store sold the latest goods and souvenirs popular with vacationers. His merchandise included groceries, tinware, cigars, tobacco, bread and pastries, ice cream, confectionaries, stationery, periodicals, bathing suits, boots and fishing tackle "for sale or to let." A wooden walk ran between Capen's and the beach bluff in those days. The store became Briggs & Maxwell in 1907. Later it Became Whitman & Wright, then Wright and Starrett's general store, but it was known far and wide as Bessie's for Bessie Wright...
