Pilot Boat, "Columbia" , wrecked Nov. 17, 1898, Scituate, Mass.
Wreck of the Columbia, Scituate MA 1898. The Portland Gale of 1898 was a massive Nor’Easter that battered the New England coast, sinking an incredible amount of ships and took hundreds of lives, and also closed up the original mouth of the North River at Rexhame Beach (now sand dunes where Levitate now operates our surf camps) and opened up the current mouth between 3rd and 4th Cliff.
