What is a Pedigree Chart?

A pedigree chart is a genealogy map of your direct-line ancestors. It begins with one person and branches backward through parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and earlier generations.

The chart is intentionally concise. Names, birth information, and death information are emphasized so relationships can be understood at a glance. Blank spaces are useful too, because they show exactly where more research is needed.
