What is a Pedigree Chart?
A pedigree chart is a genealogy map of your direct-line ancestors. It begins with one person and branches backward through parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and earlier generations.
The chart is intentionally concise. Names, birth information, and death information are emphasized so relationships can be understood at a glance. Blank spaces are useful too, because they show exactly where more research is needed.
Pedigree charts work especially well alongside Family Group Sheets. The pedigree chart shows the direct ancestral path, while the Family Group Sheet gives more detail about each couple and their children.
