John, b. Jan. 2, 1690, the only son of Jo.hn (2) and Mary (Rishworth) Sayward, was a millwright and carpenter and owned a part of the saw-mill at Cape Neddick, called the 'Cape Neddick Old Mill.' He was a grand juror in 1712 and 17 14. In 17 16 he was on the committee to examine the Selectmen's accounts; 1717, Constable; 17 18, Highway Surveyor and trial juror; 17 19, John Wheelwright, Esq., Charles Frost, Esq., and Mr. John Sayward, were Commissioners for York County to regulate the tax lists and valuations; 1722 he was captain of a military company. In the Mass. Hist. Coll. is this item: 'Feb., 1722, Capt. Sayward with a company of Volunteers, went as far as the White Hills, a hundred miles into the enemy's country' in pursuit of the Indians. In 1 73 1 he was Lieutenant of a military company. In 1733, he was moderator of the Town meeting and Selectman and Assessor, and was Selectman in 1736 - 7 & 9.
He married Mary Bane of York, Dec. 13, 17 13. He d. Mch, 1743.
