He served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War ll. He was in the 853rd Bomber Squadron, 491st Bomber Group. He fought and ultimately died for his country on the 17th January 1945 when a single shell dealt the 491st another severe blow. The B-24 #42-51481, the wing lead air craft for the mission took a flask burst between the #3 and #4 engines. The wing broke off immediately and the Bomber spun downward and crashed.
