Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Of Everett, March 16, 2005. Beloved wife of the late George Maden. Loving mother of Judith N. King and her husband Gerald of Everett, George E. Maden and his wife Kathleen of Sherborn and Robert J. Maden and his wife Patricia of Bloomfield, CT. Sister of Robert Evans of Marblehead and the late John and Charles Evans. Devoted grandmother of Keith King, Karen Washer, Christopher Maden, Timothy Maden, Rebecca Maden, John Maden and William. Also survived by 7 great grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held in the J.E. Henderson Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, EVERETT on Sunday, March 20th at 3:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Sunday 12-3 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Edith's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140. J.E.
