David Greene was born in Portsmouth, Newport County in the Colony of Rhode Island. He is the son of James Greene and Elizabeth Anthony. He was married in Jamestown on January 7, 1698 to Mary Slocum, daughter of Rev. Ebenezer and Mary (Thurston) Slocum. They were married by Ebenezer Slocum. David and Mary were parents of David Greene (Sept 11, 1701- Oct 10, 1757).

David's wife Mary died between Sept 11, 1701 and June 24, 1706 (maybe 1704). He married Sarah Barber on June 24, 1706 in Jamestown or South Kingstown, by Edward Carr, Warden. David and Sarah had 10 known children: Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, Susannah, Abigail, Waite, Bathsheba, Jonathan, Joseph and Patience.

Before May 7, 1712, David Greene purchased 235 acres of land (North Kingstown, Kings Co (now Washington Co), RI near Plum Point Rd.) This land remained in the David Greene family for over 176 years.

David Greene was the Grand Uncle of Major-General Nathanael Greene.
