1962 - The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense 13-day standoff in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S. coast. The crisis is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. Norris E. Knowles Obituary
DeFuniak Springs, Florida - Norris E. Knowles, 76, formerly of Glenburn, ME, passed September 11, 2021, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He was the son of the late Bertrand and June Knowles.

At his time of death, he was survived by his wife, Catherine (who passed a week later); daughters, Wanda and her family and Wendy and her family; Bill and his family; and granddaughter, Kayla and her family. Kayla is the daughter of Norris Jr., who predeceased his father. We were a blended family with stepdaughters, Robin and her family and Kim and her family. He was loved on both sides by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

His surviving siblings and their families are Merton, Milton, Margaret, June, Judy and Julia. He was predeceased by siblings, Mildred, Marie, Muriel, Maurice, Melvin and Jackie.

Norris graduated in 1963 from East Corinth Academy, and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

His final request was to be laid
