TUSCALOOSA Col. (USA, Ret.) Suzanne Slater Boening of Tuscaloosa died Jan. 29, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama after a lengthy and courageous fight against Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a rare inherited lung and liver disease. She was 76.
Suzanne was preceded in death by an infant sister; her father, Ross Samuel Slater of Warren, Ind.; her mother, Elizabeth Huber Slater of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and her husband, Carl Philip Boening of St. Louis, Mo.
She is survived by her son, Carl Henry Boening (Marsha); sisters, Jennifer Adair (James) and Jackie Witte (Lloyd); brother, John Slater (Bobbi); seven nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Suzanne, a 27-year U.S. Army veteran, will be buried next to her husband, Carl, at Arlington National Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing.
