Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.
Invention The cell phone was invented by Martin Cooper of Motorola. On April 3, 1973, he made the first handheld mobile phone call with the Motorola DynaTAC. This device weighed 2.5 pounds and was 10 inches long, offering 30 minutes of talk time and requiring 10 hours to charge. The first commercial cell phone was released in 1983, revolutionizing communication and leading to the modern smartphones we use today.

Rev. James T. Phillips, 68, of Little Rock, born November 19, 1943, departed this life on June 29, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father, James Philips; mother, Rosie Mae Hart; siblings, Wilbert Marshall and Ana Rose Marshall. She leaves to cherish his memory: seven children, James Carnell Smith of Las Vegas, NV, Joseph Anthony Phillips of Little Rock, Maurice Eugene Phillips of Las Vegas, NV, Pamela Phillips Woodall, Danyell Mason Phillips, LaSheryl Kris Phillips and Makaylah Phillips all of Little Rock; siblings, Joseph, Katherine, Harvey, DeJuana and Avery Marshall; and host of other family and friends. Family hour: 6-8 p.m., Friday at Fellowship Baptist Church. Home- going Celebration: 12 noon, Saturday at Gaines Street Baptist, Rev. James Thrower, eulogist. Services entrusted to Robinson Mortuary, 1201 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Little Rock (501) 371-0111. 'Service You Can Trust.'
