Stephen Hawking was a brilliant theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author. He was born on January 8, 1942, in Oxford, England. Despite being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) at the age of 21, which gradually paralyzed him over the years, Hawking went on to make groundbreaking contributions to the fields of physics and cosmology.
