1962 - The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense 13-day standoff in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S. coast. The crisis is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. The crisis ended when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba and secretly agreeing to remove American missiles from Turkey.

Dudley – Brian D. Kopas, 62, suddenly passed away on Thursday January 23, 2020; He is survived by his nephew David Kopas and his wife Monique and a grandniece Ariel Kopas, as well as many cousins, relatives and dear friends; he was predeceased by his brother Russell Kopas. He also leaves his beloved cats 'Pretty' and 'Trouble'.

Brian was born in Webster on October 28, 1957, son of the late Charles F. and Barbara (Korch) Kopas; he graduated from Bartlett High School and worked at Cranston Printworks for many years. Brian was a car enthusiast who, in his younger years, was especially known for his sports cars; he was a kind and gentle soul befriending many people in Dudley and Webster while out running his daily errands. Whether he was venturing out to buy his scratch tickets or simply roaming around town, Brian was always quick to strike up conversations with those he’d meet while he was out and about.
