"After the loss of her third husband, Jeanne Garnier remained bewildered. She lived in mourning for eight years with her nine children from three marriages. They say that time heals all wounds and helps one to forget. Jacques Barbeau, a 58 year old bachelor shoemaker, proposed marriage to her on 22 October 1679. The contract drawn up by notary Auber was accepted, but it was only on 9 February 1681 that Jeanne and Jacques were joined in bonds of matrimony, at the church of L'Ange-Gardien. This fourth husband died on 18 November 1687."
