Last Will and Testament of Obed Cook, Norwich, Connecticut. Dated 15 May 1740, proved 3 Jun 1755. Norwich Probate District, packet 2808

Know all men by these Presents that I Obed Cook of Norwich in the County of New London and Colony of Connecticut in New England considering the mortality of my Body &c: have thought fit now in any Right understanding and memory to Settle and Dispose of my worldly goods and Estate by this my Last Will & Testament in the following manner and form: and first of all after mu just debts & personal charges are discharged my will is that my well Beloved and faith full wife Phebe do Injoy during her Natural Life one third part of all my lands and buildings that I have not at or before this day Granted away by Deed.

Item - I also Give unto my her Wife Phebe the one half part of all my movable Estate to be at her dispose for Ever; and my will is that what the Movable Estate and the improvements of... Lands as above willed to her shall consist of Being a Sufficiency for her Comfortable and Honorable maintenance it Shale be ... to her by my two sons namely James & Nathaniel, during the time that she shale remain my Widow.

Item - I Give and Bequeath unto my said two sons James Cook and Nathaniel Cook and to this ... in fee simple, all my Lands and Buildings of whatfort or Kind to each to be Equally Divided between them Both for Quantity & Quality they my sd sons to afford unto their mother a Comfortable & Honorable maintenance during the time that she will remain my widow. --- as is above Expressed ---

Item - I Will and Bequeath to my three sons Namely Richard Cook of Canterbury... County of Windham, and my son James and Nathl above named the residue of my Estate of all sorts whatsoever to be equally divided to and among them that is to say to my son Richard one third part with what I have given him formerly Judges to be the... of his portion of my Estate.

Item - I give to my son James Cook one third part and to my son Nathaniel the other third part, and to both them and their heirs for Ever.

Finally I do hereby make and Constitute my Son Richard Cook above named to be my sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby solemnly Revoke and make Null and Void all other former Wills Testaments & Boguss By me here to fore made Ratified and allowing this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament in Witness whereof I the sd Obed Cook have hereunto sett my hand & seal the fifteenth day May AD 1740.

At a court of Probate held in Norwich in of District of Norwich in New London County the 3rd day of June 1755. Then, Isaac Huntington, Simon Tracy Junr & Rebekah Huntington, the subscribing witnesses to ye foregoing Will, and made solemn oath that they saw Mr Obed Cook the Testator sign and seal the same and heard him Publish and Declare it to be his Last Will & Testament and that they judged him then to be of Sound Disposing mind and memory, and that they all of them set to their hands as witnesses at ye same time in the presents of Testator.
