Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Obituary
Amanda Margie Roi, 92, of the Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji, MN, and a former Crookston, MN resident, went home to be with the Lord and her family, on Monday, October 15, 2012.

Margie was born on August 22, 1920 in Crookston, MN, and was the second of five children of David and Alice (Thibodeau) Beauchene. She was baptized in the Catholic faith at St. Dorothy's Catholic Church in Dorothy, MN, and raised on the family farm near Huot, MN. In 1924, at the age of 4, Margie and her family moved to her grandfather's farm near Ponteix, Saskatchewan, Canada. She made her 1st Communion/ Confirmation there on July 21, 1929. Later that same year Margie, who was now 9, moved with her family back to Huot. She enrolled in the nearby Huot Country School, and later attended St. Joseph's Academy in Crookston.

Margie returned home to help on the farm and then on her 18th birthday moved to the Twin Cities to work as a nanny. On November 25, 1943 she married Leo Joseph Roi at St. Dorothy's...Read MORE...
