Alphonse TONTY dit PALUDY was a Baron de Paludy, commandant at Forts Michilimackinac, Frontenac, and Pontchartrain (Detroit), captain in the colonial regular troops.

The English translation of 'dit' is 'said'. The Colonists of Nouvelle France added 'dit' names as distinguishers.
