Vancouver, British Columbia

CARL DOUGLAS MCWHINNIE May 12th, 1932 - November 30th, 2017 Eldest son of John Douglas McWhinnie and Rebecca Belle (nee Vaincourt) of Ormstown, QC, pre-deceased by his wife Joan Catherine (nee Taylor) and brother Alvin (2008) survived by sister Margaret Lowden, beloved father to Michael, John, Lisa and Cara, stepfather to Shannon and Jordan, adoring grandfather of 12. Following careers as RCMP Staff Sgt., Head of Security for Canadair Ltd. and Aviation Inspector for Transport Canada, Carl left Chateauguay, QC in 1995 to live alongside the second great love of his life, Maureen Taylor-Forey in Richmond, BC. He was boundlessly generous towards those he loved with his time and energy: Carl was a fiercely loyal patriarch who enjoyed woodworking, golf, and sharing his table with family and friends. He remained active and engaged as head of the Minoru Place Seniors' Centre woodworking shop. Knowing the end was close Carl faced death as he did life - on his own terms. He exemplified courage and dignity during his final days, passing peacefully at home. A memorial "Carl Douglas McWhinnie" Facebook page has been created. No service as per Carl's wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations to his local healthcare facility Richmond Hospital are welcome: www.richmondhospitalfoundation.com
