Temple: Found in Franklin County, Temple is a small, rural community nestled in the western Maine mountains. It offers scenic landscapes and a tranquil atmosphere.

The area of Franklin County was first settled in 1796. In 1803 Temple was incorporated as a town from Abbotsville Plantation, also known as Number One Plantation which was created from Township Number One Abbot's Purchase (T1 AP) prior to 1803.

Temple annexed land from part of Wilton in 1831.

When Temple became a town in 1803 it was originally in Kennebec County by a declaration of 1805, but was set off to Franklin County in 1839. familysearch.org

Temple, Maine
Franklin county. This was formerly a part of Kennebec county. It lies 40 miles N.N.W. from Augusta and is bounded N. by Farmington. It was incorporated in 1803. Population, 1837, 871. Wheat crop, same year, 5,798 bushels.
