The island (L'Île-Perrot) was granted by the Intendant Talon of New France to its founder François-Marie Perrot then Governor of Montreal on the 28th of October 1672.
The history of the colonization of Île Perrot, located 30 kilometers west of downtown Montreal, dates back to the mid-17th century. The island was ceded in October 1672 to François Marie Perrot, Governor of Montreal. The assignment was signed by Intendant Jean Talon, who was the uncle of Mr. Perrot's wife, Madame Madeleine Laguide Meynier.

L'Île-Perrot is one of 4 municipal entities to be found on Île Perrot, the island separating Lac des Deux-Montagnes and the Ottawa River from the ST LAWRENCE RIVER proper. The 3 other municipalities are Terrasse-Vaudreuil, PINCOURT and Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot. Connected by bridge to Île de Montréal since 1925, L'Île-Perrot is a residential suburb of MONTRÉAL, which is about 40 km to the east.
