1694 - The Seigneurie of Rouville was granted to Jean-Baptiste Hertel
Jean-Baptiste Hertel was an officer in the navy. As an award for his military achievments, he was awarded the Seigneurie which covers the present territories of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Saint-Hilaire. He was likely too occupied with military events and so he did not fulfill his duties as a lord (to hold fire and place, to clear the fief, to build his manor and a flour mill, to open roads , Recruit colonists ...) and the seigniory does not get established.
