Saint-Rémi, Québec, Canada

Saint-Rémi extends over 80 square kilometers in the administrative region of Montérégie. This city is part of the regional county municipality of Jardins-de-Napierville. It is located on the South Shore of the St. Lawrence, about ten minutes from the Mercier Bridge.

Economically, Saint-Rémi is distinguished by its industries working in the agri-food sector, in the production of concrete products, paving and a few others. Its Industrial Park has grown over the years.

  • 1815 - First Settler
    The history of Saint-Rémi dates back to 1815, when the first settler, Alexis Perras, settled there. He began to clear the land and was then joined by other families (note that a first seigniory was created there in 1750, but that the settlement of the territory did not begin until 1815).

  • 1831 - The parish of St-Rémi-de-Lasalle opened
    On June 3, 1828, the parish of Saint-Rémi was canonically erected. Two years later, a first chapel was built. The municipality was established civilly in 1835.   • During the Patriot Rebellion of 1837, Saint-Rémi found itself at the heart of history. English hussars killed a resident suspected of being behind an ambush.

  • In November 1840, a church was erected, the plans of which were drawn up by the architect Louis-Thomas Berlinguet. In 1849, a railway line crossed the territory of the municipality.
