Thomas Fowler arrived in 1829. He was the first settler of what would eventually become Millinocket.

Thomas Fowler and his son, Thomas Fowler Jr. were hired by author Henry David Thoreau in 1846 to be guides on a trip to Mt. Katahdin. Later Thoreau would write about the area in his book titled, "The Maine Woods".

1900 Millinocket
Of Millinocket's 1,002 residents in 1900, 432 were natives of Italy. Immigrants from Poland, Finland, Lithuania, and Hungary also arrived to work as laborers to complete the Great Northern Paper Company mill.

March 16, 1901 - Millinocket is incorporated

1947 - Millinocket Man, 35, Is Drowned Fishing.
Millinocket, May 18. - Henry Evers, 35, of Millinocket, drowned in West Branch River about 16 miles from here this afternoon when a canoe from which he was fishing capsized.

His companion, Arthur Bartlett, clung to the overturned craft until carried ashore by the swift current. He reported the accident to Millinocket police.

Chief of Police Allen Picard, Game Warden Alex Cummings and Bartlett were conducting dragging operations at the scene tonight.

Evers who was married and the father of two children, was employed by the Great Northern Paper Company.
