San Bernardino, a city, capital of San Bernardino co., Cal., is in a fertile valley, in a township of the same name, 4 miles N. of Colton Railroad Station, and about 60 miles E. of Los Angeles. It contains a court-house, 4 churches, 2 newspaper offices, 2 hotels, 2 planing mills, flour-mills, and a graded school. Pop, in 1880, 1673; in 1890, 4012.

1914 - MILLIONAIRE CRUSHED BY BOULDER IS DEAD
San Bernadino June 22. - George A. Ralphs, millionaire grocer of Los Angeles, died here several hours after a three-ton boulder had crushed his leg. The accident occurred in the San Bernadino mountains back of Arrowhead, when Ralphs, standing on the rock, moved aside to make room for Mrs. Ralphs to jump down beside him. The boulder gave way and he fell under it.
