Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue is located on the western tip of Île de Montréal, about 35 km west of MONTRÉAL. Its shoreline, bathed by the waters of lakes Deux-Montagnes and Saint-Louis, has made the town popular for pleasure boating and yachting. The canal (1843) linking the two lakes is a national historic site and remains the busiest in the province.
The town took its name in 1878, the year it was incorporated as a village. The name Bellevue, which refers to the panoramic view from the western end of Île de Montréal, is reminiscent of the fief of Bellevue that was granted to two brothers, Louis and Gabriel de Berthé, in 1672...

Around 1712, René-Charles de Breslay, local parish priest from 1703 to 1719, got caught in a fierce snowstorm. He fell from his horse, broke his leg on the ice, and lost the horse. Breslay was allegedly saved through the intervention by Sainte Anne,
after which he built a chapel dedicated to her at the westernmost point of Montreal Island next to Fort Senneville and Tourtes Island (Île aux Tourtes). Two years later, the parish was reestablished and took the name Sainte-Anne-du-Bout-de-l'Île.

1832 - The Parish of Ste. Anne,
by a regulation made Sept. 20, 1721, confirmed by an Order in Council, Mar. 3, 1722, was erected at the upper end of the island, and contains the extent between the R. de l'Orme N. and the Cote de Pointe Claire S., and also the upper part of Isle Perrot. The greatest extent of land possessed by one person is 360 arpents. All the P. is conceded, and the greater part previous to 1759, and the portion conceded since, in farms of 3 arpents by 30, pay the same rent, viz. one sol per front arpent and half a bushel of wheat for every 20 superficial arpents.
