America - Did you know?

In 1811, Chief Tecumseh met with Creek Indian leaders in Tuckabatchee, Alabama, and tried to persuade them to join him in his fight against the Americans. Unsuccessful, he shouted, "When I get back to Detroit I will stamp my foot upon the ground and shake down every house in Tuckabatchee." A month later, the great earthquakes of 1811 shook and enormous region. The Indians at Tuckabatchee hurried to their lodges, exclaiming, "Tecumseh has reached Detroit. Feel the earth move with his foot!"

The World Almanac of the U.S.A, by Allan Carpenter and Carl Provorse, 1996
