RENAUD/ RENAULT/ RENAULD - from the Germanic name 'Raginwald' from 'ragin' which means 'counsel' and from the root '-waldi' which means 'to govern'.
Mathurin Renaud was baptized on October 14, 1641 in Saint-Étienne d'Ars-en-Ré. Son of Mathurin Renaud and Gabrielle Routy, he married Marie Pelletier, daughter of François Pelletier and Michelle Le Challe, on October 7, 1669 in Quebec. From their union were born 4 children. He was in the country in 1662. In 1666, he was a servant of the Jesuits, and lived in Petite Auvergne. In October 1670, he moved to land in Charlesbourg. We do not know the date of his death but he died before September 29, 1677. His widow married in second marriage, Pierre Canard.
