Biography
BOLDUC - Alteration of 'Bois le Duc' for those who come from the said locality in France. Louis Bolduc (Boulduc) was born around 1648, in St-Benoit de Paris in France. Son of the grocer Pierre Boulduc and Gillette Pijart, he married Élisabeth Hubert on August 20, 1668 in Quebec. From their union were born 7 children. He arrived in the country in 1665 as a soldier in the company of Sieur Grandfontaine, in the regiment of Carignan-Salières. He settled in Charlesbourg. He lives on pain and misery and gets into debt. In 1676, he was appointed provost of the Provostship of Quebec, but he was stripped of this role in 1682 following a conspiracy. With the loss of his office and his financial troubles, he returned to France with his wife. He died around the end of 1700 and the beginning of 1701.
