Darl spent his youth on the farms of Saskatchewan before moving to Ocean Falls BC as a teenager where he met the love of his life, Iris St. Onge. He took an opportunity to move his family to Eureka California USA to work as an Electrician for the local Pulp Mill where he eventually retired from as the Superintendent of Electrical Engineers. He was an avid golfer and expert Wood worker who made many cabinets and tables for his family and friends.

Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.
