CARTHAGE - John A. Bears, 66, 35207 New York State Route 3, died early Tuesday morning, June 17th, 2014 at the Samaritan Medical Center, where he had been a patient for a short time.

Born at the former West Carthage Hospital on March 10, 1948, the son of John A. & Lillian J. Hull Bears, he graduated from Carthage High School. He married Marlene H. Camidge on August 21, 1971 at the Deferiet Union Church. He served in the United States Navy for a total of four years; active duty for two, stationed on the USS Yorktown and in the Reserves for two, before being Honorably Discharged in 1973.

John worked at the former St. Regis Paper Co. and Champion International in Deferiet as a computer operator in the boiler room. He also worked for a few years at Lyonsdale Biomass in Lyons Falls, before retiring in 2000. He enjoyed his spending time at his camp on Soft Maple Flow with his family, friends and his dog, 'Cope'.
