Kearny, kar'ne, a township in Hudson co., N.J., on the Passaic River, and on the New York, Lake Erie & Western Railroad, opposite Newark, with which it is connected by a bridge. It has 7 churches, 5 public schools (1 being a high school), 1 newspaper, a Young Men's Christian Association Institute, and manufactures of mining machinery, cotton and linen thread, linoleum, small metal goods, celluloid, sand-paper, &c. Pop. in 1880, 777; in 1890, 7064.
