Farmville, a post-village of Prince Ed ward county, Virginia, is finely situated on the Appomatox river, 08 miles W. S. W. from Richmond. The South side railroad connects it with Petersburg and Richmond. The river is navigable for batteaus from this place to its mouth, and the village has an active trade. Farmville contains 3 churches, 1 bank, 1 newspaper office, and several tobacco factories. Population, in 1853, about 1500.
