Hazleton, a city and resort of Luzerne oo., Pa., on the Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley Rs., 22 miles S. of Wilkesbarre. It has a state miners' hospital, the Hazleton Seminary, machine-shops, silk-, knitting-, lumber- and planing-mills, manufactures of caskets, etc. Anthracite coal is largely mined in the vicinity. Pop. in 1900, 14,230. Elevation, about 1700 feet.
