1870 - A man gave himself into the custody of the Philadelphia police the other evening, representing that he had, on the 20th of November, killed his mother by a blow at Canandaigua, N.Y.
He was searched, as is usual, and put into a cell, and subsequently it was discovered that he had a razor, and was in the act of cutting his throat. On the day following the sister of the prisoner waited upon Detective Gordon and said that her mother was alive and well.
