U.S. Civil War

The U.S. Civil War, also known as the American Civil War, took place from 1861 to 1865. It was a conflict between the Northern states, known as the Union, and the Southern states, known as the Confederacy. The primary cause of the war was the disagreement over issues like slavery, states' rights, and economic differences between the North and South.

The war resulted in significant loss of life and had a profound impact on the nation. The Union, led by President Abraham Lincoln, ultimately emerged victorious. The war led to the abolition of slavery with the passage of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, and it further solidified the federal government's authority over the states.

The aftermath of the Civil War brought about a period of reconstruction, during which efforts were made to rebuild the South and integrate formerly enslaved individuals into society. The war's legacy continues to shape American society, politics, and culture, and it remains a significant chapter in U.S. history.
